Currently have a couple of routers with DD-WRT on them, but considering going to Tomato, will definitely do it if there is a way, especially an easy way to do the following:
I have a Dlink DNS-321 NAS box that only serves ftp. Several remote sites automatically backup some data to this. I know it is not very secure, and I would like to improve the situation. The DNS-321 has a samba server as well, so it is viewable on the lan. I'm trying to figure out a way to set it up to use rsync or sftp or ftps (man, too many options!) for the remote backups. Looking at the wiki page, it looks like I would have to use a different mod of Tomato to even get sftp?? Teddybear is that correct? Even if I do that, will it be able to use my samba share on my lan for sftp traffic? In other words Cobian backup ( my backup program currently ) would ftp into the router, then the router would use the samba share as storage?
Outside of new hardware, is there any better way to accomplish this? There are so many options, and I am not well versed in this, I'm sure I'm probably overlooking something more simple.
Thanks for any advice.
