I have a question about using WDS. I have a Buffalo G router with Tomato upstairs (remote), and an Asus RT-N12 Tomato downstairs connected to the cable modem (server). The two connect and work fine with WDS, but anything else connecting wirelessly to the Main Asus "N" router gets real, real slow. Connections show "N" speeds, but transferring files or running programs on the server is really bogged down.
I thought WDS only chopped the connection speed for those things connecting through the remote router because of the relay, rather than those connecting directly to the server router.
Is the problem because the "G" router is connecting through the "N" router, or something else? I probably have an older version of Tomato on the Buffalo router (I'm not even sure if it's the USB derrivative or not). If I unplug the G router, everything gets fast again, so it's clearly the G router slowing things down, I'm just not sure why. I'm thinking of springing for an Asus RT-N16 to act as the server, and use the N12 to replace the Buffalo G, but I want to be sure the Buffalo is the problem and not WDS in general.
I"m a newbie, so I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.
