So would you say that 2.4ghz radio is only capable of up to 150mbps. I've tried everything with my Asus n16. It say 300mbps on the wireless network status, but 150mbps in tomato gui. What's up with the inconsistancies? Thanks for all the feed back Ronnie.
Edwordsigh, no, you can't say that at all. The informations that you should have gleaned from reading the above links, are these. You *may** get up to to 300 speeds on 2.4, but it is likely to (a) cause interference to other nearby people, who of course just might take it upon themselves to rearrange your face a little, and (b) It may not work if someone else is using any of the next haf dozen channels - because the wireless driver is *supposed* to stop it doing just that. It depends also on your manufacturer of wireless card, if he has even enabled it on 2.4. In your case it appears as if the network status is reporting that the router is capable of 300, whereas the routers is telling you the actual negotiated speed. Or maybe vice-versa :) . You might say, the "politicians" who wanted to get commercial advantages overcame the "engineers" advice and thereby caused this whole mess. Dual channels should NEVER have been allowed on 2.4.

Toastman, thanks for the prompt response, that definately cleared up the issue. I appreciate the time you put in straightening the issue out. It looks like I fall under "all of the above" factors of why I wouldn't get to the 300mbps, lol.
Haha, who knows? There are so many factors. I live in an apartment with 27 AP's nearby using channels 1,6,11. Around me are other apartment blocks and many businesses, several private homes. I have obtained 300Mbps speeds on 2.4 by removing the antennas on an RT on channel 11. It still wiped out 3 nearby AP's on channel 6. The guy in the apartment above me then jumped off one of those AP's and connected to the RT, and he also got high speeds.
I tried using 4 RT's as AP's to see what would happen if I placed one highspeed AP on each floor out of the goodness of my heart. None of them achieved more than 150 but they caused the apartment block's AP's so much interference that the phone began ringing and I received several death threats <LOL>
It might be possible to run 30 "N" AP's on 5GHz in a large block, but there's no advantage in it for me anyway, because the speed to individual users from a shared 16Mbps line is easily handled by B/G AP's. Probably that won't change for some years yet. Private users like yourself don't have such a clear cut decision though.
