Hi! Im new from DDWRT and so far so good with the stock settings! But my question was what advanced settings do you guys change to get optimum performance out of your routers. My AP is a E300 with Both bands running…any advice would help thanks!
If you didn't forget to erase the NVRAM after loading Tomato for the first time, most probably you don't need to touch anything on the Advanced->Wireless page - maybe just "Transmit Power". The rest is better left at the defaults unless you have a specific need to change one of these settings and understand what they do. For details, see this doc - although incomplete, it describes most of the settings. You can also google one of these terms for more.
thanks for the quick reply! but with DDWRT i used to tweak everything in the Advance Settings to get better signal strength in the 5Ghz side…already on my 2.4Ghz side i notice that its a lot faster and smoother on tomato. my videos load fast my ps3 doesnt lag im happy! only issue im having is with the 5Ghz side. i cant seem to get 300mbps. these are my wireless settings
so im leaving the Advanced settings to stock and these are my speedtest. with DDWRT i used to hit 22-24mbs im sure its a few tweaks but lets see what the issue can be
hey i got success! im getting 22mbs! ok so in my 5ghz band advanced settings i changed or ill just take a screen shot lol. but what did the trick for me was the channel. i went from 60 to 36 and left everything else the same in my basic settings. only thing is i cant seem to get 300mbs. im getting 108mbps with 2 bars on my wireless adapter maybe someone can give me a tip or 2 on that?
Sweet! ok so now im getting 3Mbs a sec downloads when im on the 5Ghz band! i never got that high on DDWRT! great work devs!!! ok so what i changed in the advanced settings on my 5Ghz end was that i disabled WMM and CTS protection i also set my Transmission Power to 50. now im getting 116-216 mbps… should i leave WMM and CTS protection disabled?
EDIT: quick question under what tab is it that i can change my password for my web GUI…is it Administration > admin access? all the way at the bottom were it says password? i tried that and hit save then when i try to log back into the web gui my password doesnt work then i am forced to reset my router. not sure if its a bug its self or even if its on my end….
Take a look at this thread which has a few more tips.
Password change should work as you described - maybe you're using some invalid characters or something. I haven't heard of anyone reporting a problem before.
