Ask here for an specific optware guide and I will add it to my tuto.
Thanks for all your good work with tomatousb and its options. What an activity!
I run tomatousb v1.28.9052 MIPSR2-beta23 K26 USB vpn3.6 on a NetGear WNR3500 and use a small usb hub on the router. Will try to install Optware on it also. I have a suggestion, perhaps a little odd…?
Would it be possible to make an Optware module (or otherwise) to run wviewweather on the router? On that page, they describe how to build it (which I can't), and there is an example of NSLU2 implementation. It would be even better if the router could run a webserver for low-traffic external access with a dynamic weather page generated from wviewweather, e.g. with lighttpd.
(I have also seen folks doing such things with owfs.)
Is it also possible to have the router to put a webcam image on the weather page (or separately), fetched via usb? Is that perhaps already possible with some Optware module?
- Having the always powered-on router handle a little weather station on the internet would be neat.
Do you think this is possible?
I'll investigate on the issue, but it all seems possible…. not easy :p, I've allready read about webcams working on the router via usb, and yeah owfs can also do what you are asking, Ill look at the wviewweather to see if I can get it to work on my router.
I would like to request a ntpd tut. Would like to host it for my lan.
If you mean an ntp (time server) tutorial, thats easier than the first request, I'll have it done when I have time, probably for next week a first draft will be written on here http://tomatousb.org/tut:how-to-set-up-nas-optware-etc-for-total-noobs
But I thought you were new at Linux. What are your qualifications for writing an ntp tutorial? I don't want to rain on your parade, but the last thing we need is tutorials written by people who don't have a comprehensive understanding on the topic. The internet is already full of naive and incorrect advice.
Anyway, it's not really needed. If somebody want to install ntpd, it's trivial. "ipkg install ntpd"
Anyway, there is a section in the Tomato Advanced Operations Manual (soon to be released) on configuring Tomato's ntp update.
I'm "new" (not so much) to linux, as you allready know, and my only qualifications for writing an ntp tutorial, or any other is setting it up myself and configuring it, and making an easy to follow tuto of what I did to config and make it work as I wanted.
Thats how I make my tutos, and of course are oriented to noobs who dont know where to start, or in what direction to look.
I aint a linux guru, but I dont make naive tutorials (hope not), surely you can proove me wrong, but this is the way I did the other tutos, and I'm getting good feedback from them.
your a bit lost :p
Those are (if i'm not wrong) extra modules, probably included on the extra flavour of tomato.
Optware, is Optional software and is not related to this site.
For optware go to:
The complete list of optware, is in:

I havent made progress on your petition, I've been very bussy, sorry, but I havent forgoten it.
Just an idea. After finding out about the timing issues with scripts in the gui, I have learned an easier and cleaner way to enable swap in TomatoUSB. Consider for your NAS/Optware tut.
