Hey guys! First of all I just want to say great work with this firmware, its the best thing i've ever seen in a while. My RT-N16 has by far been the best router i've ever had with this firmware, and I've gone through top of the line routers like the WRT610N, and WNDR3700. Now for my issue. I have connected my RT-N16 along with my modem, External HDD, and all other computer equipment to a TIMED POWERBAR that is set to turn off at night, and turn on in the morning for power conservation purposes. First of all, is this generally safe for the router? Also, I've noticed each time the router boots in the morning, the media server has not scanned the files, and that I need to manually scan them for them to be listed. Is there a script i could set to run after mount to scan the HDD for media? Thanks for the help in advance!
One option would be to specify a custom path for media database - point it to a directory on your USB drive where you have your media files, instead of using database in RAM. Then it won't need to rebuild it every time you power up the router.
However, the automatic scan on startup still should work (but there could be some timing issues)… Are you using an auto-mount, or do you specify the mountpoint for your drive in /etc/fstab?
I never thought about the custom path option, thanks! When I tick the RAM (temporary) option, the option for automatic scan on startup disappears. I have set it to automount. It does not rescan at any point, I have to manually rescan the media, when it's on Temporary (RAM) I will let you know if this works, but also, to your knowledge, is it safe for the router/hdd to turn off and turn on every night? thanks again!
