In simple im setting up a wireless ethernet bridge with a tomato router, and I am unable to get it to run at 40mhz and N only. When I set it to N only, it says "N-Only is not supported in wireless client modes" and there is no option to set it to 40mhz, so it runs on 20mhz by default. Is there any way I can get this going? Thanks
The WET (wireless ethernet bridge) and Wireless Client modes can operate in "N" mode. But you can't specify "N-only" in the GUI. Wireless driver doesn't allow that. Why? Think about it… "N-only" restriction applies to the clients connected wirelessly to the router - it means "only N clients can connect". When router runs in a client mode, no clients will be connecting to it (it will connect itself to the AP), so the "N-only" setting doesn't make any sense.
Set the "Network Mode" to "Auto" on your client router. You can set your main AP to "N-only" if you want to restrict the network to N-capable clients only - then your client router won't have any choice as to connect in "N"-mode.
I have a similar issue, if I use 40mhz channel width on my AP with channel 11 (this is the clearest channel for me) then my tomato router will not connect as a wireless bridge. If I connect to the router via ethernet and go to the web interface it shows as connected but no traffic passes. If I change the channel of my AP to 6 then everything works (but speed is not good due to interference from other neighbouring routers). Can this bug be addressed please, it's very annoying. Getting 81Mbps vs. 270Mbps on all other clients (while on channel 11).
