I don't understand why the samba configuration page has only one user/password, while the ftp configuration allows you to enter an apparently unlimited number of users. I would like to be able to have user-specific shares defined so that the network users could each have their own directory for backing up their local "my documents" or "home" directories. I still want to have some shared directories where everyone can read/write.

You can always edit the /etc/smb.conf file directly instead of depending on the Tomato GUI. You should be able to create user specific shares this way although I can't manage to mount a Tomato share on my linux host so I'm no expert on the subject.
