First of all, i'd like to say "hi" for everyone! Im new in this modded firmware world! i know about these firms for a long time, but i couldnt use it b4 cause of compatibility (i was using a crap D-link, till i decide a good one for me…).
Now i have a RT-N16 and the first thing i did is installing one of those! Trying DD-WRT now, but it has a problem for me… the NTFS support… Probably it has some workarounds to fullfill this need, but althought i had some *nix systems experience on past, it's way far to be my especiality! im a very experienced "networker" working at a ISP, so routing/switching is my thing, period. lol
I have a very very close friend that uses these firmwares for ages and that i can surely call an expert on *nix systems, but i don't wanna ask him for help all the time because i know how boring it could be. And i don't wanna brick my router cause it would be too much pain. lol
So, here is my situation: i'm totally undecided about which firmware to use!
DD-WRT is a very good choice, thats for sure. but theres something in my head telling me that trying NTFS on it could bring me some trouble, since i decided to try "walking by myself". And having NTFS would be great for my wife, since she uses a external HD if some large files (there any size limit for NTFS on these firmwares? oO), and she will be using this HD on another places, thats for SURE. :/
The OpenVPN is another feature that i just cant miss, cause i always used it and having it at an appliance is great! It doesnt matter, since Tomato has this feature…
Finally, my question!!! LOL
Tomato has support for Vlans???
Because it would be something great for me, since i have 2 WAN links (different ISPs). Im thinking about some crazy things i could do using vlans. :P
for example, dd-wrt has some option to assign LAN ports to a VLAN. understand the things i could do with it? For sure someone has already tried things like that, but as i told you guys, im new to this world! (almost 3 days)
So, my overall needs are: OpenVPN, NTFS (RO/RW), QoS, DDNS, FW and VLANs.
As you can see, i included some other things, but as i can "see around", those features are almost a standard among firmwares. And others i didnt even mention cause i really feel that all firmwares have! And if i don't remember them, it's because i don't need it! lol
So, any advices? opnions? i would like to go for TomatoUSB. Having a "YES" as an answer about the VLAN question would be a dream! and for sure, i will start using it on the same day!
PS: Really sorry about the HUGE post, but i just wanted you guys to know more about me as i could learn some things about all of you reading ALL posts on this forum. We never know where or when we could find a new good friend… :)
Thx ppl!!! and dont kill me, please!!! lol
