Hola to All!
Longtime TomatoUSB user and forum lurker…
I have an Asus NT-16 with Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 -132 K26ARM USB VPN-64K loaded.
My PC is Linux Mint based
My goal is to have the fixed Google DNS 184.108.40.206/220.127.116.11 used by my PC, which is connected to the Tomato router. I have modified /etc/resolv.conf in the pc so it has those static nameservers and it does not get overwritten on restart.
In Tomato, i have set static DNS for a DNS Redirect service I use so that all devices that connect to the router and are setup with normal DHCP settings get the benefit of the DNS redirect. This router is connected to the ISP's cable modem/router.
However, I am not sure if Tomato overrides the DNS settings of the PC. In other words, when I go to a new website in my browser (I have both Firefox and Chrome) does the PC actually use the Google DNS servers or is Tomato forcing the request to use the redirect service DNS servers?
The reason I am asking is that I usually get a lengthy "Looking up (website url)" before I actually connect and display the page. This can be up to 30 seconds or even time out. But once the site does connect, page reloading or going to a new link at that domain appears to be normal speed.
But If i connect my wired ethernet directly to the ISP router, bypassing the Tomato router, the page DNS lookups are usually very quick to load.
