Hello, I have a Asus RT-N66R, seems to boot up fine. However I am unable to access the router as i do not have the username/password. I have had a very confusing time trying to reset the router or flash any firmware. I was able to log in to the gateway and get a prompt which said "TomatoUSB". Odd, someone already had tomato on here.
I tried a 30/30/30 hard reset to get it back to default tomato settings. This would NOT work, it simply put the router in "rescue mode' slow blinking power light.
No problem, I'll use the firmware recovery tool. I tried numerous times uploading the stock firmware and Shibby 1.32, the upload and system configuration would complete but the router would never appear to flash the firmware, and i was left with the error message "could not communicate with router" etc. Then I realized the problem was probably Windows 8.1.
I prepped my Windows 7 computer to flash another firmware, and while holding down the reset button, somehow the stock Asus page came up and I was able to configure the router. I then did a hard rest in preparation for Tomato. After a hard reset, to my surprise I was able to log into Tomato 1.28 at 192.168.1.1. I could see that the NVRAM was messed up, it said 64k used of 9999
I figured it must work fine on Windows 7, so I then tried to flash Shibby 1.32 following the github instructions
It appeared to work, power light stayed off for a long time, like the router was flashing the system. The router came back up and I was able to log in, however it kept booting over and over again. Boot looping non-stop. All the radios come up fine and it stays up just long enough to give the PC a IP and then it reboots.
As soon as I unplugged the cable from the switch it stopped rebooting, but I cannot see any SSID even though both radios are up.
At this point I'm really confused. Any ideas? Why would just plugging into the switch cause a reboot?
