Before we even get started, let me assure you that I have searched this topic extensively and tried many different how-to's and scenarios. I have yet to find one that works the way I need it to, so please sit back in your seat and relax as I lay out the plan.
I have a two story house with a detached garage. The garage is roughly 25-30 yards north from the house. My router is located centrally in the first story and faces west. The router is a Netgear R6300v2 running "tomato-R6300v2-AT-ARM-2.9-131-AIO-64K" and I love it! Shibby's with the advanced tomato GUI are my initial experience with Tomato and I love it. Well, I would like to have a dedicated tower in my garage. So far I have run a laptop out here. Prior to Tomato, I was running DD-WRT and my laptop could connect to the network, but could not load webpages. After upgrading to Tomato by Shibby, I can surf… sorta. It is extremely slow and does occasionally drop out as far as data transfer.
I have an old Netgear WNDR3400v1 that I have also been playing around with. Currently, I am running "tomato-Netgear-3400v1-K26USB-1.28.RT-101" on it b ecause the AdvancedTomato GUI has a glitch and will not load the "routing" section. As far as I have been able to find, this is the newest build taht will run on my machine. Before you get trigger happy, I have tried to load "tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-131-VPN" due to it being the updateddd version of Tomato by Shibby, it would be the same version as my main router, and it was the smallest flash file. This bricked my router, so I recovered and loaded the Netgear firmware back on through tftp2, and am currently flashing the Tomato back on as mentioned above.
I would like to connect them wirelessly to allow wired and wireless connection in my garage. In almost every scenario I have tried, the main focus has been using the same SSID and authentification, Static IP changed to 192.168.1.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0 (same as othe router,) Default Gateway and DNS server set to IP of other router, and turning off firewall or at least to forwarded only. I have also disabled the WAN and set the wireless as a "wireless ethernet bridge."
As I mentioned, I have researched this topic extensively and tried many things to no avail. Could somebody please help me set this up?
