First of all I want to thank the authors for this amazing software. It really is a marvel. I am impressed by the performance gain after switching to tomato firmware.
However, I encountered a difference between LAN to Wi-Fi and WAN to Wi-Fi throughput. I am using a Linksys E3200 router, Tomato v128 firmware.
LAN to Wi-Fi: 18MB/s tested with iperf
WAN to Wi-Fi: 11MB/s tested with speedtest.net using the ISP server
WAN to LAN: 22MB/s tested with speedtest.net using the ISP server
The Wi-Fi network is set to N only, 5Ghz, channel 40, only 1 client connected to the network, 5 meter distance to the router, no other 5Ghz networks in the area. I haven't changed any settings in the Advanced Wireless menu. I use however modprobe bcm_nat as an init script.
So my question is: what causes this loss of throughput on the WAN to Wi-Fi connection? If LAN to Wi-Fi throughput is 18MB/s why WAN to Wi-Fi throughput has a loss of 7MB/s?
I know that I already have I high speeds on Wi-Fi, but I am asking this for my own understanding. Also I am curious about the optimizations that can be done on the router in order to get the max performance.
