I have had TomatoUSB (Build 54) installed on my Asus RT-N16 since December 2010 with zero problems. On Thursday our Internet speeds for both wired & wireless connections slowed to a crawl.
I work in IT so I understand that people exaggerate so I'll explain what I mean by "crawl". Webpages would load very slowly. You might be able to login to Yahoo or GMail but usually wouldn't be able to open, reply, or delete mail. Speed tests would fail at the start when testing latency. Anything requiring more bandwidth just didn't work at all.
I assumed the problem was with our ISP so we struggled through Friday. On Saturday, I started troubleshooting. To make a long story short, I discovered that turning wireless off immediately resolved the issue for the wired connections. After a lot more testing, I eventually turned the wireless back on and everything seemed fine until maybe an hour later and then all wired & wireless connections suffered the same slow down as before.
We live in the country but I scanned the wireless channels anyway. I found the neighbor's router on channel 6 and changed mine from 5 to 11. I tried N Only and Auto but, eventually, the problem returns if wireless is on. If wireless is off, the problem doesn't return for the wired connections.
I haven't made any changes to my router configuration for months and even then it was only to add my wife's new cell phone and Kindle. So, this is my question, is my router dying?
Thanks for your time.
