I am a new at this… I am try to extend my wireless internet by connecting 2 Linksys E3000 with tomatousb installed on both…. The first one is connect to the modem and I am trying to connect the other one from lan to lan on first router ….. Was running dd-wrt and had it working on there no problem but my speed with tomato is so much faster I want to use that… Have been trying for 2 days and cannot get internet on second router…. HELP……
What problem are you having? It should really simply be an issue of connecting the a patch cable between the LAN's or setting up a wireless bridge. Configure both routers to be using the same network and you should be set to go. For example, I use 172.31.253.1 for one router and 172.31.252.1 for another and a netmask of 255.255.255.252. The WAN on my 172.31.252.1 router is disabled, and my default gateway on that router is 172.31.253.1. Both are running DHCP, wireless, and a full range of services.
I suppose the most likely mistake you could make is trying to connect the LAN of router to the modem to the WAN of the second modem. That can actually work as well if you want two separate networks, but does not perform nearly as well.
I would suggest an even simpler IP scheme with fewer complications.
LAN = 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server enabled starting at .100
WAN Disabled. Assign to LAN ( should be automatic )
No gateway used as a bridged device.
DHCP Server disabled
Wireless channel #1
Connect the network cable from router #1 LAN port to any of the 5 ports on router #2. The WAN port is now a LAN port. They are all the same.
Now you gots an extra hole to stick things into.
Wireless Channel #11, all other wireless settings the same as router #1. Make Wireless MAC same as wireless MAC of router #1.
